PROJET RHYTMME : DEPLOIEMENT D’UN RESEAU DE RADARS DEDIE A LA GESTION DES RISQUES EN TERRITOIRES MONTAGNEUX MEDITERRANEENS

Abstract : This paper presents the X-band Doppler dual polarized radar network that is being installed in the French Southern Alps, in the context ot the RHYTMME project. Numerical simulations give an idea of the hydrological coverage of this future network. An observed rain storm that induced a debris flow over an Alpine torrent is described. It confirms the benefits of radar observations regarding the high spatial variability of rainfall in mountainous areas.
